Discussion of the General Epistle of James, who was the half-brother of the Savior. He admonishes the reader to rejoice when temptations and trials come because those lead to the chance to develop patience, or the type of testimony that is able to endure. We are also famously taught to ask God and pray in faith as we seek for wisdom, and James is more explicit that our prayers, learning and faith must be accompanied actions in order to lead to salvation. We also discuss the meaning of “true” religion and the importance of religion within a society, as well as the true purpose of prayer, which in addition to being our source of true wisdom, is also a type of atonement, and review James’s warning not to judge one another.
